Other Key Relationships

In order to meet its remit the Payment Council has strategic relationships with a number of other organisations relevant to different areas of the council’s work.

  • Visa and MasterCard  The Payments Council has built up and maintains a strategic relationship with both card brands in relation to the work we have undertaken on both the National Payments Plan and cheque replacement. 
  • European Payments Council (EPC) The EPC supports and promotes the creation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). To ensure that UK customers’ needs are taken into account, the Payments Council and its members are actively engaged in the work of the EPC.
  • SWIFT (UK) Ltd  SWIFT is the Society for Worldwide Interbank Telecommunications. SWIFT (UK) Ltd is the national member and user group for the UK community of SWIFT. The Payments Council has an informal engagement with SWIFT UK and is exploring opportunities for both organisations to work together.  
  • Tech UK Tech UK is the UK trade association for the IT, telecommunications and electronic industries. Due to the association’s diverse membership, the Payments Council has a set up strategic partnership with Tech UK to launch a vendor forum. 
  • Financial Services Authority (FSA)  The FSA supervises financial institutions. The Payments Council and other organisations engage with the FSA to develop and organise market-wide contingency exercises.
  • VocaLink Ltd  VocaLink provides the infrastructure for the Bacs service and the LINK service. It also hosts the UK's database of sorting codes and other essential bank reference data on behalf of the Payments Council's clearing codes management group.
  • UK Payments Administration Ltd  This is the service company which provides people, facilities and expertise to the UK payments industry.  The Payments Council contracts with UK Payments Administration via a service level agreement to buy in the resources needed to help deliver its objectives. 
  • The UK Cards Association  The Payments Council has an active engagement with The UK Cards Association reflecting payment cards' significance as key elements in the overall UK payments market and the breadth of common interest.
