The Payments Council closely monitors developments in regulation and public policy at a national, European and international level. We assess the implications for payment systems, consumers, businesses and other organisations in the UK.
Where appropriate, the Payments Council will respond to consultations. Our aim is always to champion customer needs, the security and reliability of payments and the need for regulatory developments to be proportionate and grounded in robust evidence.
We argue for regulation and policy that creates the right conditions for a competitive payments industry that meets the needs of the widest range of customers.
When necessary, we will also coordinate the industry to implement regulatory change, such as the Payment Services Directive. Sometimes we produce industry guidance and best practice to support change.
