Collaborative Aspects of Payments

The Payments Council acts as the key vehicle for enabling payment industry collaboration on a diverse range of topics including: 

  • Future innovation and strategy
  • Standards
  • Regulatory developments
  • Integrity
  • Fraud
  • Industry research and analysis 

To facilitate this, the Payments Council has set up a number of committees and sub-groups which enable a cross-section of Payments Council members and stakeholders to participate in this work.

  • Standards
    The Payments Council works to develop and promote world class standards for the use in the payment systems in the UK.
  • Payment integrity
    One of the Payments Council’s key objectives is to ensure the integrity of payment services in the UK, though a primary focus on issues which cut across the payment schemes. 
  • European developments
    The Payments Council monitors and participates in the work of the European Payments Council (EPC) which supports and promotes the creation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)
  • Regulatory developments
    The Payments Council acts as the lead on regulatory developments in the payments industry such as the Payment Services Directive.
  • Cash
    The Payments Council acts as the focal point for the provision of strategic direction on co-operative (non-commercial) issues for cash.
